SOUTH WALES – Walking South Wales, Royal Mint & Welsh Mining Experience.
Friday 12th to Monday 15th March 2027
Our Trip will take us to South Walkes, based in Cardiff this is a fabulous opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery of Wales including visits to the Royal Mint and the opportunity to enjoy gin tasting at Hensol Castle. We will also dive back into Welsh mining history with a visit to the Welsh Mining Experience in the Rhondda topped off by a visit to the Royal Mint.
ITINERARY
Day 1: We will travel to Chepstow. Where the walkers will have the opportunity to walk from England to Wales across the Severn Bridge. The non-Walkers will have time in Chepstow.
Our base for our stay will be the Holland House Hotel in Central Cardiff.

Day 2: There will be an opportunity for the walkers to enjoy the Pontsticill Circular Walk. This 5.5-mile walk wends its way around the Taf Fechan Reservoir at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The trail leads all the way around the reservoir with stunning waterside views of the Mountains.
The non-walkers will have the opportunity to visit Merthyr Tydfill Home to Cyfarthfa Castle.
In the afternoon we will visit the Welsh Mining Experience where we will enjoy a -tour hosted by an ex-miner learn about the global business of coal and the mines inks to the Titanic, and the owner of the mine who wrote the first one-million-pound Cheque
After our Mine tour we will carry on to Hensol Castle Distillery where we will learn about the history of the castle followed by a tutored gin tasting

Day 3:
This morning the walker will have the opportunity to take the Cardiff Bay Trail which is 6.2 miles long taking the sights of the Bay and surrounding area.
In the afternoon we will visit the Royal Mint Britain’s oldest organisation. We will be guided through the 1,100-year history of coin making in Britian. Coming face to face with artefacts dating back to 886AD, a legendary 1933 penny and try and lift a 400oz gold bar.
Day 4:
This morning after breakfast we will check out of our hotel. Making our way to Hereford to visit Berrington Hall – a neo classical mansion by Henry Holland set in ‘Capability’ Brown’s final landscape and garden.
