Jeff Hindle Memorial Trophy @ Stamford GC, Friday August 28th 2026

Stamford Golf Club was the setting for the Jeffff Hindle Trophy and unfortunately the numbers were down again. Only 16 people were due to play in this event and due to an emergency on the day that number dropped to 15. The layout of Stamford with its hilly terrain meant that no buggies are allowed on the course due to health and safety reasons. Totally understandable as anyone attempting to get round intact in one would have found themselves the stars of Instagram. The lack of buggies meant that there was at least 5 of our members who are unable to play without their use.

The day started off well enough with the traditional bacon butties and coffee. We made our way to the first tee not realising what the golfing gods had in store for us. The threat of rain become reality and after about 6 holes it started slowly and softly, by the time we got to the 8th tee it was biblical. To give you an example of how much rain fell and the effects on the green. Keith Bolton hit a great shot which went on to win nearest the pin, but needed 3 putts to get through the water to get to the hole. We were advised by the greenkeeper to take shelter in the clubhouse and wait for the rain to stop. Two of our 4 ball John Martin and James Cleary decided enough was enough and packed up for the day. The greenkeeper was correct and once the rain stopped the course cleared very quickly and we were able to resume.

Keiran Dunn picking up a couple of nearest the pins but no 2’s so a rollover to Dukinfield.

The winner was once again Bill Harris a close friend of Jeff Hindle, but mention again must be made of Betty Fallows our sole lady participant, coming in 3rd.
