Jeff Hindle Memorial@ Westhoughton GC, 24th July 2025

Its a while since we played Westhoughton Golf Club so we were looking forward to teeing off there. We had initially 29 golfers registering for this event but unfortunately due to sickness and a lack of buggies for hire only 27 played.

There was a welcome return of Alan Saville to the Portland and with his pal Andy Southworth  paid tribute to the other member of the 3 Amigos Phil Lancaster who is no longer with us.

The course was in good condition and most seemed to enjoy it. The longest drive prize has been replaced this year with a nearest the pin 2nd shot on the shortest par 4, this gives everyone a chance rather than just the big hitters. Though the winner this time was an habitual longest drive winner in Captain Jay Chambers.

Ernie Rowlands ensured the Captains charity received a boost with a game of stand up bingo swelling the coffers at a £1 per man entry. The Captains’ question proved a little too difficult for all concerned nobody wishing to risk a £5. However his supplementary question did elicit a response with two people getting it wrong so a further £10 added. His monthly joke also needs a bit more work.

On to the results, although all nearest pins were won, there was once again no two’s so  £50 rolling over to Didsbury so get your entries in.

The results were really close with 4 points separating the top 4 finishers with Ian Hopkins holding off the threat of the Bolton Boys Keith and Kevin 2nd and 3rd, and last years winner Bill Harris came in 4th place.
